5 Leadership Truths
Dear Reader,
I smiled when I read this on the ‘Leadership Challenge’ blog at http://www.theleadershiphub.com:
“(Kouzes’ and Posner’s next book) was to be a book about millennials and what
leadership means to them. However, their research over the last year has led
them to understand that leadership doesn’t really mean anything different to
millennials than it did to prior generations.”
I smiled because when you set out to look for something, and all the current
chatter says something is there, your predisposition is to find it. It takes
integrity to decide there’s nothing there.
Whether you agree with them or not on the millenials issue, I like the five
truths they have determined so far, as they have morphed their new book into a
quest for the Eternal Truths of Leadership. Self-evident they may seem, but
aren’t all the enduring truths self-evident:
“So far, Jim and Barry have determined Five Leadership Truths:
#1 – Leadership development begins with self development; it’s about
the individual
Truth #2 – You can’t do it alone
Truth #3 – The foundation of Leadership is Credibility
Truth #4 – You either lead by example or you don’t lead at all
Truth #5 – Being forward-looking most differentiates leaders”
The Leadership Challenge blog is one of the links on our new revolving ‘best
leadership blogs on the net’ feature on The Hub Home Page at http://www.theleadershiphub.com
Also on the Home Page this week, you’ll find out how to use urgent leadership
language based on the SBAR formula used in emergency rooms in hospitals. You’ll
also find out why I’m jealous of Hugh Laurie. And how to peel a banana like a
monkey. Oh, and Avalok’s back with those cool slideshare things he makes. Hey,
all life is here.
Have a great leadership week.
